Rooted in tradition, baked fresh with love.

We discovered chimney cakes on a trip to Budapest, Hungary, and were instantly enchanted. Watching the spiral-shaped pastries bake over an open flame and tasting their crispy, golden goodness was unforgettable. After trying them again (and again!), we knew we had to bring this incredible treat back home.

We traveled to Slovenia to master the craft, and in 2021 left our corporate careers to launch the Chimney Cakery – a mobile bakery serving fresh, made-to-order chimney cakes.

These pastries, also known as kürtős kalács have a rich, centuries-old history. They’re made by wrapping dough around a wooden spit, grilling it until the outside is caramelized (while the inside stays light and fluffy), and adding toppings like cinnamon sugar or sprinkles. For an extra indulgence, they can be filled with spreads like Nutella or jam.

After two successful years in Pittsburgh, we decided to move to the Raleigh, NC area in search of a better climate and shorter drives to the beach and mountains.

To us a chimney cake is more than dessert—it’s an experience. Watch as we roll out the small-batch dough, wrap it onto a spindle and then cook until the sugar caramelizes. And then enjoy the finished product!
